Healthcare disparities within the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer, Intersex, and Asexual (LGBTQIA) community exist, partly due to the lack of culturally congruent care given by healthcare professionals. The health of the LGBTQIA+ community is suffering and lack of empathy and ineffective communication are the culprits. This presentation will highlight topics such as proper pronouns, microaggressions, and effective communication to help alleviate the disparities.

Tracey Johnson-Glover DNP, MSN Ed, RN

Dr. Tracey Johnson-Glover has been a nurse for 15 years and has worked primarily in Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), Mental Health, and Community Health and currently maintains a clinical practice one day a week as a staff RN in the NICU. She has 4 years of teaching in clinical settings, in person, and online. At Touro University Nevada, she currently teaches in the RN-BSN and MSN program with a focus on Community and Global Health.

Dr. Johnson-Glover completed her Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) in Transcultural Nursing at Duquesne University in Pittsburg. With special training in transcultural care and effective communication with the LGBTQIA+ community, she will not only have the opportunity to share with students and increase cultural sensitivity in healthcare, but assist in nursing research projects as well. Dr. Johnson-Glover’s mission is to ensure everyone receives equitable care, and to plan, educate and execute evidence-based research into practice as demonstrated by her research projects in pharmoacogenomics. Her passion and commitment for serving others, particularly the underserved and disenfranchised, is one of the key qualities that motivates her to look for opportunities to increase culturally congruent care and ultimately improve patient outcomes.

Dr. Johnson-Glover is also involved in community outreach organizations such as the Southern Nevada Black Nurses Association where she resides as the Vice President, a member of the Transcultural Nursing Society as well as the American Nurses Association, and on the Health Ministry at Victory Missionary Baptist Church where she is a member. She also loves spending time with family and especially her 5-year-old grandson.
